I am opposed to increasing the gasoline tax at this time. Even as billions of dollars have been diverted from existing gasoline taxes, now comes a legislative effort to raise gasoline taxes by as much as 125 percent over 10 years.

This is bad for all Texans and for our economy. If adopted by the Texas House, Senate Bill 855 would cause Texas to have the highest gasoline taxes in the nation.

Worse, this tax hurts those who can least afford it, families and small businesses struggling to make ends meet in these tough economic times.
