Subject: Banning Children’s Exposure to Drag Shows, Senate Bill 12 (SB 12)

• Author: State Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola)
• TFR Position: Support
• Background: SB 12 seeks to protect children from being exposed to sexually-oriented performances on public property to promote the health, public safety, and well-being of our youngest Texans. For these reasons, TFR supports SB 12.

Subject: Banning Discriminatory DEI Policies in Higher Education, Senate Bill 17 (SB 17)

• TFR Position: Support
• Background: SB 17 seeks to prohibit universities from using tax dollars to push Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices which have resulted in increased polarization and racism. All taxpayer-funded education should be free of ideological bents and should concentrate on education, not indoctrination. For this reason, TFR supports SB 17.

Subject: Burdensome Regulation, Senate Bill 1120 (SB 1120)

• Author: State Sen. Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown)
• TFR Position: Oppose
• Background: SB 1120 seeks to further regulate estheticians and cosmetologists by prohibiting them from being able to inject Botox. Further regulation of industry only hurts the free market and seeks to empower a corrupt medical establishment that proved during the COVID pandemic it cannot be trusted with individual medical decisions. The correct response is allowing the free market to work and allowing Texans to make their own decisions based on the information at their disposal. For this reason, TFR opposes SB 1120.

Subject: Regulating EV Charging Stations, Senate Bill 1001 (SB 1001)

• Author: Senator Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown)
• TFR Position: Oppose
• Background: SB 1001 seeks to regulate charging station owners for electric vehicles. Licensing and regulation are the enemy of the free market and always end with higher prices, barriers to entry, and the government ultimately picking winners and losers. With the introduction of EVs and new technology, Texas has a real opportunity to let this new industry flourish without government interference and burdensome regulations. SB 1001 violates free-market principles. For this reason, TFR opposes SB 1001.

Subject: Increasing Barriers to Entry for Dieticians, Senate Bill 2016 (SB 2016)

• Author: State Sen. Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo)
• TFR Position: Oppose
• Background: SB 2016 seeks to increase the prerequisites to be a licensed dietician based on the standards from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. SB 2016 would increase the prerequisites for a license from that of a baccalaureate degree to that of at least a master’s degree. Texas should never be in the business of making it harder for Texans to work. By increasing barriers to entry and regulation, SB 2016 stifles free enterprise and ultimately hurts those wanting to work. For this reason, TFR opposes SB 2016.
