Counting our Blessings this Thanksgiving

Debt, Economy, Holidays, Taxes, Thanksgiving

It is that time of year again; the Holiday season is  upon us.

As we observe Thanksgiving this week, Americans across the country will travel and come together, with family and friends, to celebrate.

As we gather around the Thanksgiving table this year, it may be impossible to ignore the adversities and challenges that we, the peoples of these several States, currently face:

Crushing inflation, economic instability and uncertainty, burdensome taxation, nearly $34 trillion in debt, record national deficit, joblessness, housing crisis, unsecured borders, threat of war with foreign nations looming, and a general lack of faith and trust by many in our institutions and governments.

Despite these challenges, we can not lose hope and must keep things in perspective:

We live in the greatest country in the world, with opportunities and freedoms that people in many countries cannot even fathom.

We live in a country of abundance, and despite the economic uncertainty that many face, most of our basic needs, such as food, clothing, water, and shelter are available to us daily. Something that many people lack, especially in war-torn regions.

Despite our divisions, obstacles, and struggles, we live in a country where we have the ability, the opportunity, and the duty to make change, to make a difference, to fight for a better future, and to secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.

All of these are blessings from almighty God that we must acknowledge, and it is our bounden duty to give thanks for them, on this Thanksgiving day.

And we must keep in mind that, ultimately, all of these things are fleeting, and we should rest our hearts in the peace of the Lord, which surpasses all understanding.

So with all of that said, let me leave you with this prayer, to pray and reflect upon:

“Most gracious God, by whose knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew: We yield thee unfeigned thanks and praise for the return of seed-time and harvest, for the increase of the ground and the gathering in of the fruits thereof, and for all the other blessings of thy merciful providence bestowed upon this nation and people.

And, we beseech thee, give us a just sense of these great mercies; such as may appear in our lives by an humble, holy, and obedient walking before thee all our days; who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen.”

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
