President Biden’s recent signing of the $1.2 trillion federal spending package has served as a reminder of the Federal Government’s addiction to spending money. Specifically, taxpayer money.

Despite the staggering trillions in federal debt, Biden’s endorsement of the bill fails to address critical issues facing these United States. The rushed nature of the signing, coupled with the lack of transparency surrounding the bill’s contents, has fueled frustration among lawmakers and constituents alike.

Glaring omissions in the bill include the failure to address border security measures, particularly amid the ongoing crisis (a crisis admittedly created and encouraged by the Biden Administration) at the southern border. This neglect represents a betrayal of national security and sovereignty, not to mention a betrayal of the fiscal health of the country.

Opposition to the bill extends beyond its content to encompass broader concerns about fiscal responsibility.

Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), one of the few fiscal conservatives in Washington, pointed out that the $1.2 trillion “minibus” spending package would help “lead us to a $1.5 trillion deficit for the year.” Speaking on the nation’s unsustainable debt trajectory, Paul commented, saying, “We’re borrowing about $1 trillion every three months. It’s an alarming pace of accumulation of debt.”

The national debt has already exceeded $34 trillion, and is on track to reach a record $35 trillion in the next couple months.

The lack of accountability and responsible stewardship of taxpayer money must end, and that will only happen when voters hold their elected officials accountable at the ballot box, with nothing less than a resounding “no” to the federal government’s spending addiction.
